Habitat

African Pigmy Hedgehogs are a hybrid breed of Hedgehogs, because of this they do not have the required fat reserves for storing fat to survive through hibernation and cold spells.

They therefore need a habitat that maintains a minimum temperature of 26 degrees centigrade, this can be achieved using either a pulse or minimum temperature thermostat attached to a heat lamb with a ceramic heat bulb.

APH’s are nocturnal so they are at their most active when it is dark, they also require a regular day and night cycle. It is recommended to have a strip light on a timer in the vivarium so that the light consistently comes on at the same time every morning, and goes off at the same time every evening.
